TFLTruck Pits The Ram 2500 Cummins Against The Silverado 2500HD Duramax:

3/4-Tons Take On The Ike Gauntlet...

Our friends over at TFLTruck.com recently got their hands on a 2021 Ram 2500 Limited Night Edition Crew Cab 4×4 with the 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six-cylinder and put it to the test on their signature Ike Gauntlet towing test. But the Ram wasn’t alone, the team pinned it against the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab 4×4 with a 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel under the hood.

While both pickups feature 3/4-ton capacity and turbodiesel engine, they are very much different as they are alike. The 2021 Ram 2500 Limited Night Edition’s 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six turbodiesel delivers 370 horsepower and 850 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to the highly questionable 6-speed 68RFE automatic transmission. The combination is good for 20,000 lbs. of towing and a 2,000 lbs. of payload.

Chevrolet’s Silverado 2500HD Z-71 Sport Edition’s 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel produces more horsepower and torque, respectfully. The Duramax pumps out 445 horsepower and 910 lb.-ft. of torque and is paired with a 10-speed Alison automatic transmission. The specific truck that the TFLTruck team has is rated to tow 18,500 lbs. and has a payload of over 3,000 lbs.

The Ike Gauntlet involves both a downhill decent testing braking capabilities, as well as a grueling climb with elevations in excess of 11,153 feet, a 7% increasing grade up an 8-mile stretch of I-70 near Denver, Colorado. But how do both trucks hold up on the “Ike Gauntlet”, TFLTruck’s signature towing stress test
