6.4 temperature when towing

I have a 2017 ram 2500 6.4l tradesman. I just replaced the engine. When I am towing my 12500 pound camper my temperatures are as follows 245 coolant, 275 oil and 170 transmission when pulling a grade. Seems high to me, any ideas?

If mine is any indication, your trans is doing fine at least..mine runs 168 whether cruising or towing my lil’ trailer up and down, your trailer is about three times the size.

Oil and coolant seems pretty high. How fast up the hill? Rpms? Running at 4100 rpm up a 3% grade for a few mins oil will hit 250. But the fan should turn on and drop your temps quickly. At least that how mine works. I am about 21k lbs total weight.

Can't push it pulling hills, maybe 45 mph maybe 4000 ram. I noticed the 80 Amp fuse fore the radiator fan is gone?

That would probably be it. It should sound like a jet engine after you hit 250 oil temp and the big fan ramps up.

Just realized it has a mechanical clutch for the fan, that is why no fuse. What is the chances the clutch is bad?

Clutch trouble will usually manifest during lower speed, stop and go driving..highway heating is usually thermostat and sometimes radiator, typically. IME

If you are not hearing the fan ramp up and get really noisy as your temp guage passes about 210 to 215, and certainly by the time it reaches 220 I think it likely has failed. Do you ever hear the fan come on?

Just keep your ears open. If it's anything like mine the noise is unmistakable roar from under the hood. Might even call ot a howl depending on the fan itself.

The clutch fan should be at full lock at 230 on the hemi.

OP it sounds like your oil is kind of high but not going to hurt anything. the rest is normal especially in hot ambient temps with that size trailer

That is about the same as my toy hauler fully loaded with can am x3 max inside. I havent had it on any big grades to speak of, mostly so. cal flatish roads. We will see how well it does going up the grade from I10 through yucca valley and out to the hammers this season octoberish.

I pulled a 7k trailer up the Sierra Nevadas and I feel like I never really heard the fan. I did see oil getting up over 240, and maybe could hear some fan noise around that point.

Oil will never trigger the fan from what i can tell

Well I pulled the oil cooler and I t had calcium build up. I bought a new one, installed it, towed a 5k trailer over Maris Pass in Montana. Temps when I reached the top were 246 coolant, 265 oil and 170 Trans. Still seems high. Probably would have overheated with the camper

Replaced the engine over the winter, around January or February probably put 5k on it
