Dealer doesn't have to apply for anything.. they pay the original invoice...
Only if they submit the sold order to DealerConnect with a price exception claim along with the original sold order showing the name of the customer who bought the vehicle. If the buyer changes or they weren't listed on the order, no PP.

Believe what you want .
Well I have a good family friend who until just recently was a general sales manager at a CDJR dealership and that's exactly the process for claiming price protection so I'm not sure what you're insinuating or where you got your info. If it's not a customer sold order, they floorplan the invoice price at build time not whenever they ordered it.

Well , I'll disagree, every sold order I've seen is invoiced to the dealer at original or close to original invoice price.. the only auto co raising the price on sold orders is rivian...you've probably never seen the actual invoice would be my guess..

I'm in the business and manufacturers invoice the cars at the time of build, not when it was ordered. When my truck was ordered, the MSRP was $68,155. When delivered the MSRP was $70,360. I have the sticker in front of me right now.

I've ordered vehicles from almost every make - I've been doing this since 2002. I've delivered over 4,000 vehicles.

Think of the headaches of a manufacturer trying to keep track of when a vehicle was ordered and what the cost of each option was at that time. It's not going to happen.

There is one manufacturer that does something good for their customers. BMW will lock the rate and lease parameters on an ordered vehicle IF the customer or dealer asks. The customer will need to get approved at the time of order, then BMW Financial will hold the terms. Yes, I have done this for my clients and I have an order which we locked the rate.

Here's my deal from MD the preview was on 1/10 79135.00 contract 79135.00 on 4/30 when truck came in, my window sticker for truck at 92870.00 and then my order sheet price 89115.00.
MD held my price of 79135.00 all the way thru the end even with price increase of msrp

Thanks for sending the info.

I didn't think it was possible, so I pulled my file. My truck was ordered on 12/6/21 and arrived 2/7/22. The dealer sold me the truck for below invoice - I didn't know it until I just looked at the docs. Here's another oddity. The invoice price at the time of order was 291 less than at the time the truck was built 1/18/22. However, the MSRP sticker isn't even close to the MSRP on both invoices (12/6 and 1/18). My guess is that the manufacturer printed the invoice at the time the truck was built, hence the 1/18/22 invoice date. I'm thinking that the sticker was printed when it was processed at the port. I didn't pay attention to any of this when I got my truck, I signed and left - I was so glad to get it. Literally, 5 minutes at the dealership ... well, 15 minutes of small talk, the 5 minutes to sign and get copies.

Also, I just built the truck on my system and the new MSRP (5/13/22) is $1,805 more than when I bought the truck. I can't believe how fast these trucks are going up in cost.

One final thing, the invoice is how much the dealer is charged for the vehicle. My guy sold me the truck for less than the agreed upon amount when it was ordered. That amount is also less than the 1/18/22 invoiced amount. Though there is nearly $2,000 of hold back, so there's a bit of wiggle room. Also, there's no invoice based on the MSRP sticker (MSRP is $2,205 more than the amount on the 1/18 invoice).

One other thing. Your state allows a much higher doc fee and there's a $700 addition without a description - not sure what it's for. Our doc fee is $85, so some of the "below invoice" savings gets eaten up by fees.

Still, you got a great price on your truck! Congratulations!

The extra $700 is Carpro C Quartz ceramic coating they did for me. They offered it at the price and after researching the ceramic coating brand I had them do it for me. I was fine with the doc fee price since they gave me a good discount on the truck.

I have now ordered 5 trucks from MD for family this year, and all have been the same deal, no increases, no hidden fees, all upfront, and price locked.

Jumping in to add my final cost:

Chapman in Horsham, PA advertises on their website 3% below invoice, on a fluctuating MSRP.
My truck increased from 64,540 to 67,490 before build.
I was charge 11% less than window sticker.

so..that’s not price lock but for only driving 3 hours to dealer it was excellent.

MD (over 1,000 miles away) estimate was a $1,200 savings over Pennsylvania.
For $1,200 I decided to get more locally. Had MD done a price locked 5% below, then I would have saved an additional $4,000 +/- on this build. As was, I save almost $8,000 off MSRP and beat local dealers up here by $10k, yep.

89 day wait from order to driveway.

Interesting, I wonder if Chapman is submitting the order for price exclusion and pocketing the difference.

Ordered 2022 3500 from Dave Smith. All started great until final price and build, back and forth, they added stuff. They left off several key options. I was only into it for $1000 deposit so emailed Dennis Dillon. Got instant quote back so moved forward. Decided not to finance so was moved to different sales rep. Two weeks later with all sorts of excuses I said forget it. Back to Smith. 5 months later got $78000 truck just close what I wanted. Done with both.

After looking around a ton, ordering a 1500, and then stumbling on a good deal I picked up a 2500 Laramie today. It’s a Laramie, CCSB, ORG, Snow chief (Awful name by the way), white, 18’s, 12” Uconnect, body color bumpers, 4.10, LED bed lighting, adaptive steering, spray in liner.

The dealer had a MSRP of 70,350 but showed a discount to get it to 61,908. Of course that discount was a pile of stacked incentives / discounts that nobody could capture all together. I told them if I were driving from Richmond to northern VA that they better get close to that price and not pull any games. They said they’re motivated for Memorial Day weekend so I went up.
I was able to get them to sell it to me with an all in price of $70k (truck price of $64k, tax/title/tags/dealer bs fees was $3,500, and the balance was a 7/year 120k mile full coverage warranty, 7 year unlimited wheel / tire protection plan, 7 year unlimited mile maintenance plan covering all oil changes, tire rotations, etc., and the dealer version of ceramic coating and interior protection (most likely a waste).
It may not be the greatest deal in the world but I’m happy with it. I care about having a robust warranty since all new vehicles have so much technology and crap that can break. This seemed to fit that.

Glad I found this forum and waited instead of taking the first deal.

Here is my MSRP build sheet from when I ordered from my local dealer. I used the FCA Affiliate program via my employer to get that bottom line down to $70,488 including the destination charge.

Interesting they left something off my order too, the Ram mats. I requested a change (Nav radio and 7.0 gauge cluster) only one week into process and they said “no can do for sure but we tried”. Maybe it will show up on build/sticker. It will be built any day now. More than likely missing my requested updates. But now prices have gone up 2k for same build as my order. So I’ll stick it out. I can upgrade stereo and gauge cluster later I suppose.
